Frequently asked questions
Which colour options are there?
Three: Dark (white text on black, for reading at night), Grayscale (black and white, for printing) and Sepia (a warm paper tone that is easy on the eyes).
Will photos turn into negatives in dark mode?
Yes, photos and diagrams are inverted along with the page, so light areas become dark. Colours are shifted back so reds still look reddish, but photos will look unusual.
Can I still search and copy text after changing the colours?
Yes, if "Keep text searchable" is on. The original text is kept hidden under the new page image. Turn it off for a smaller file without selectable text.
Can I convert a colour PDF to black and white for printing?
Yes. Choose Grayscale to remove all colour, which helps the print shop or your printer use only black ink.
Does dark mode save printer ink?
No. Dark mode fills the page with black and uses much more ink. Use Grayscale if you want to print cheaply.
Why is the recoloured PDF bigger than the original?
Each page is redrawn as a picture in the new colours, and pictures take more space than text. Keeping the text searchable adds a little more on top.
How is this different from my PDF reader's night mode?
Night mode only changes how one app shows the file. This tool saves a new PDF in the new colours, so it looks the same in every app and on every device you share it to.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is processed inside your browser on your own phone or computer. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for Aadhaar, PAN, bank statements and other private documents.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
