Is this a PDF hash or checksum tool?
No. Fingerprint PDF makes a separate marked copy for each person you share a document with, so a leaked copy can be traced back to who received it.
How does the hidden fingerprint work?
Each copy gets its own random ID, stored in the file details and as invisible text on every page. The pages look exactly the same as the original.
How do I find out who leaked a copy?
Open "Check a copy" and select the leaked PDF. It reads the copy ID, and when you open your fingerprint-key.csv it shows the name of the person that copy was made for.
What is the fingerprint-key.csv file and should I share it?
It is the only list that links each copy ID to a person. Keep it to yourself and never send it along with the copies.
Will the fingerprint survive if someone prints or screenshots the PDF?
No. The hidden ID lives inside the file, so a printout, photo or screenshot does not carry it. Turn on the visible "Prepared for" footer if that matters.
How do I enter the list of recipients?
Type one name per line, up to 200 at a time. Commas and semicolons also split names, so write "Ravi - ABC Bank" rather than "Ravi, ABC Bank".
Can I add a visible name on each copy as well?
Yes. Turn on "Also print Prepared for... in the footer" to add a small grey line with the person's name at the bottom of every page, which makes people think twice before forwarding it.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is processed inside your browser on your own phone or computer. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for Aadhaar, PAN, bank statements and other private documents.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
